Eco Tourism & the K'Gari Research and Learning Centre
Eco-tourism is ecologically sustainable tourism with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas that fosters environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation. By embracing sustainability in our business we help shape a better tomorrow as well as contributing to a better environment. We work hard to make our own footprint smaller and lighter, and continually review our activities to identify key areas that can be improved. This is an ongoing journey of improvement for us.
Sunrover offers clients the opportunity to see as much of the flora, fauna and natural landforms of Queensland's protected regions as a small group tour, while more importantly experiencing the environment so that it leaves a lasting impression on the mind, heart and soul of each individual. We firmly believe that people who see and love our National Parks and heritage will provide future support for sustainability and preservation of such environments — experiencing these first hand will leave all with an affinity for the environment and its sustainability, linked firmly to the native indigenous culture, the original protectors of our land.

What we do
Recycling
We recycle as many plastic bottles and aluminium cans as we can. Groups and volunteers collect rubbish from beaches after high seas and erosion.
Weed eradication
Sunrover volunteers remove weeds from the campsites around Eagers Creek.
Renewable energy
Replacing fossil fuels with renewable sources. Sunrover uses three sets of specialist solar panels and systems on Moreton Island.
Technology change
Promoting new technologies that reduce CO2 emissions — less paperwork, less cost.
Energy efficiency
Green vehicle maintenance prevents pollution. Our drivers' knowledge of tides and conditions saves fuel and wear on vehicles.
Food and health
We aim to use products grown, harvested, processed, packaged and distributed with the least environmental impact — typically local and organic.
Guest education
Through guide information, stories, folders, pictures and interpretive signage, our clients learn to protect the environment and leave only footprints.
Recycled water
All Sunrover vehicles are washed at recycled water facilities at Rainbow Beach, and guests are encouraged to refill water bottles and conserve water.
Partnerships
Through ongoing, evolving partnerships with external and internal stakeholders, Sunrover is better able to serve guests while protecting the natural surroundings — Bulwer township on Moreton Island, Second Valley Eurong and Dilli Village on Fraser Island, Queensland National Parks, World Wildlife Fund and the Department of Transport. Sunrover also proudly sponsors Take 3 for the Sea.
